Drilled up today. Forecast ass for Saturday and Sunday. Wasn't overly pretty but done and will grow.
Went on a stag there about ten years plus ago. Had a mate who was obsessed with the show at the time so he booked us into that hotel(flamingo or oasis? Something like that) was a cracking weekendWas there on a stagger last year. Was brilliant. Something for all ages.
All what I grow is for feed. But a lot goes for malting.See
Looking good. Does most of the barley in your area end up as whiskey, or just go for feed barley?
Is it easy when you have to get out and pick a stone every 100 yards? All looks easy working soil north of the border
Just keeps you fit and stops you falling asleep, how much top soil have you got?Is it easy when you have to get out and pick a stone every 100 yards?View attachment 1178383
I spent much of spring '85 doing that with a buckrake on the back of an MF 35 at Granton on SpeyIs it easy when you have to get out and pick a stone every 100 yards?View attachment 1178383
That looks like some really tricky soil!Horrible but done @ 350kg/ha and rolled. It’s for seed to grow on so don’t need a big yield anyway.
Are onions going to be planted in that fine seed bed!!!Is it easy when you have to get out and pick a stone every 100 yards?View attachment 1178383
your soil looks relatively stone free? someone still ploughing in the distance?Rain through the night and sleety showers this morning but got a start mid afternoon, laurette for malting () , still raw and colder than we'd like really. View attachment 1178346

empty the bucket more often and just use the loader? Is it easy when you have to get out and pick a stone every 100 yards?View attachment 1178383
Stone free ... I wish , that's just one of the better bits, yeah still plenty ploughing to do round here, grounds drying slowly, a lot of heavier ground that's been ploughed a while looks dry ontop but is absolute mush underneath .your soil looks relatively stone free? someone still ploughing in the distance?
And pick up half a tonne of soil in the process?empty the bucket more often and just use the loader?
Frustratingly slow to dry out here. Looking at a field now that I am desperate to put some barley into but I am going to have to be patient. Drains have been an issue too. One field has had a bog appear. Cannot plough until sorted.Stone free ... 6-8” in the good bits.Just keeps you fit and stops you falling asleep, how much top soil have you got?
Been using a Kelly Harrow today breaking up maize residue, and then going over a field that has been direct drilled to spring . Kelly Harrow doing a fantastic job.
Edit .
Forgot to say the as the small discs are rotating at speed there is no bunching of residue as you can see, un like a tined implement .
A very rare implement .
