Used to feed it ad-lib to our growing pigs, and it replaced all the water in the liquid sow rations. Feeding it Ad lib can be a bit rich, whatever you do keep it constant, else they’ll either turn their nose up at it gorge themselves.
Fresh is also better. It turns to lactic acid in about 3...
Mixed farm, looking for a young apprentice.
We run a 620sow pig breeding unit in Ripon N’Yorks, alongside 600 acres of arable cropping, grown mostly to feed our pigs.
We’re looking for a bright young individual, willing to get stuck in, with all aspects of both enterprises, helping out our...
Previous crop was spring barley. Harvested late. We attempted to get a winter cover crop in, so it’s half drilled with fodder rye and vetch, but the weather shut us down end of sept, so never got back to it and it never really grew. Our approach has since changed a little since then so our aim...
I’m wanting to plant a summer cover crop in some marginal land. Heavy clay. We’ve had consistently low yields, and it works up slabby. I want to put some structure back in and think the best way is roots.
most mixes are focussed on winter cover and Nfixing. I want a summer structure mix that...
Had a thought about drilling my beans with the Claydon at a depth 4” in a frost. For the following reasons
1. The land will take the traffic better
2. Frost mould should prevent a smear
3. I want to drill earlier so I’m not harvesting on Christmas Eve... as usual
4. Less to do in spring
5...
Temptation is to over feed your gilts, try to have them ‘fit’ but not ‘fat’ it gives a lot of problems and needless pain farrowing cos they have fat lining the birth canal. This can then result in her taking it out on the piglets.... if your not there she might kill the whole litter.
Optimum for...
Anyone know someone who’s been doing companion cropping for a number of years?.
For a number of reasons cover cropping is not the best fit for our business where as effective companion cropping seems an attractive option, timing, labour and soil health wise.
my aim is to drill our crops early...
Chatting to our rep at Omex. He says they’ll mix fine as they are both clay based products. And that there will be better coverage as it will adhere to the soil surface better being plastered on with a wet product. Also better activation as it’s wet. We happen to have a suspension kit on a...
Is anyone using suspension fertilisers with avadex in a mintill situation.
I was told avadex wouldn’t work with min till cos it won’t get good coverage with clods and trash etc, but I’m told avadex spread in the suspension fertiliser gets better coverage. The question is, is it enough to make it...
60 crate house sounds like a fair set up, and probs ideal for a machine that works with exact repetition. Sounds like it has the ability to break the jobs back at least. Any idea of the make? The one I was looking at was on wheels. Thanks for the shout
They were big at p&p fair about 10 years ago, but never really took off here, though I hear they have a lot in Denmark and Germany.
I know it’ll never be as good as a bloke, and is for sure going to miss bits. But if it was set on to take the thick off and someone followed it I thought it might...
Has anybody had any experience with robot washers, what are the upsides/downsides, limitations and needs etc. Can they really be left to do sow crates? Got so many different types of buildings to, do you have to program it for each one.
any help appreciated
presumably you don’t plant under polythene.
We’re in Yorkshire growing days arnt quite the same up here. Harvest date of November bothers me a bit. We’re on Get on and get off land. This year our first available day would have been in April no joke. That’s why I was looking at ccm with hopefully...
