Few things I would watch. Summer mastitis is one. AI'ing cows inside is never as successful as when at grass. If you miss a few then they will run on into the winter months which then will bring scour etc.
As has been advised - give them all 2cc of Draxin under the skin - this is treating them for 80kg and covering them for 2 weeks.
Any that are visibly poor at present give them Metacam into muscle (3 - 4cc be plenty) and some Nuflor or Fenflor or equivalent into muscle.
Good luck.
Pointed bit of fun for discussion today. Don't want to delve too deep into 'don't worry about what anyone else is it' Etc. Etc. But;
Who else watches what the neighbours be at and evaluates themselves against them accordingly?
For example, there are various bits of ground that have the...
Fair point. Iv had to pull this years calf off today as he just wont suck the cow properly - he is nearly a month old and actually getting worse at sucking the bottle. If i dont act up now next thing is he will die - so, pulling him of and getting him to drink from the bucket morning and night...

Lottery. White BB bull (red gene carrier like BB2247) on a red lim cow is one way. There are many different ways - although a BB bull or BB breeding in your cow is almost always needed.
As I said - its a lottery.
Yes I am a customer also - not overly happy with them but laziness has kept me there! Will definitely look into BOI aswell. Be handy once I have all gathered for 1 bank anyway
I am currently trying to borrow money for land. Dealing with ulsterbank in NI - they are quoting me 4.1% with a max lending period of 20 years.
Is there anyone in NI who offer better rates? I read in another thread about Lloyds offering 2.2% and AMC 3%
Sorry if there is another thread on this new development - couldnt find it.
Got a text from my bank saying that the Government made a decision on Monday to allow a top up to existing bounce back loans - anyone any details?
My bank said details will be posted soon
If i culled 10 cows id lose 30% of my herd haha (only run 30 cows - i'm one of these hobby farmers ya hear tell of)
But yes - i am going to invest in a set of scales and start weighing my calves - and down the line i will keep heifers from only my top performing cows etc.
I'm just trying to be helpful. How do you suggest i bring my costs down?
I take conacre - that wont change.
I'm a good feeder - that wont change.
I pay electrc, water, insurance etc - that wont change.
I treat animals when sick - that wont change.
Not being facetious, just dont see how its...

They get 2kg of meal at weaning for 2 weeks to get them onto it - then up to 4kg of meal and 6 weeks before they go to mart i try and get them to 6kg per day each.
Usually wean at 7 or 8 months as calving...
