    Few things I would watch. Summer mastitis is one. AI'ing cows inside is never as successful as when at grass. If you miss a few then they will run on into the winter months which then will bring scour etc.

    As has been advised - give them all 2cc of Draxin under the skin - this is treating them for 80kg and covering them for 2 weeks. Any that are visibly poor at present give them Metacam into muscle (3 - 4cc be plenty) and some Nuflor or Fenflor or equivalent into muscle. Good luck.

    Lottery. White BB bull (red gene carrier like BB2247) on a red lim cow is one way. There are many different ways - although a BB bull or BB breeding in your cow is almost always needed. As I said - its a lottery.

    I am currently trying to borrow money for land. Dealing with ulsterbank in NI - they are quoting me 4.1% with a max lending period of 20 years. Is there anyone in NI who offer better rates? I read in another thread about Lloyds offering 2.2% and AMC 3%

    If i culled 10 cows id lose 30% of my herd haha (only run 30 cows - i'm one of these hobby farmers ya hear tell of) But yes - i am going to invest in a set of scales and start weighing my calves - and down the line i will keep heifers from only my top performing cows etc.

    I sell all my calves at around 8 - 12 months old - depending on the time of year. They get 2kg of meal at weaning for 2 weeks to get them onto it - then up to 4kg of meal and 6 weeks before they go to mart i try and get them to 6kg per day each. Usually wean at 7 or 8 months as calving...
