This family run farm is looking for a key member of staff to join a small and skilled team that cover approximately 4,000 acres of combinable crops in North Kent.
Experience in combining or spraying essential but the role will involve both and more. The diversity of work...
This advert popped up while waiting for a YouTube video to play and it caught my eye so I didn't skip it at the first possible opportunity. I thought it was excellent marketing and others may appreciate it.
Talk of Luximo being ~20% uplift in control which is certainly helpful but perhaps ‘Bixlozone’ sold as “Overwatch” in Oz will be the real step forward if it comes this way.

@MX7 having just watched the Convio animation on CLAAS website I wouldn't want to touch it with a barge pole . all those sensing bands to adjust a a multitude of rams to move the knife bed, sensors to auto adjust reel speed and torque and belt speed. @warksfarmer is right, most headers are...
They will without doubt pickup less stones than a conventional header in all situations. Until you’ve sat in a combine and watched one it’s quite hard to appreciate how different it is so I’d recommend getting a demo or going to see a demo. Purchase price is more but it will cut when others are...
I think this thread suggests the value in renewing your O-Licence? I'm certainly as glad as ever that we still put up with running our own lorries. Direct profitability of haulage is one thing, but value to the farm business as a whole knowing that you can make harvest deliveries, selling...
I have ~10ha in the ground. Very early to develop in the spring, flag is emerging now so assume will be early to harvest. If not will have plenty of time soaking up the sun?! Stems like bamboo canes and 5 clean + green leaves. It’s not on a fertile site (no muck) so could be a bit thicker for...
I am wondering if we should run our own big baler next year? But not having been directly involved with baling for 15 years i'm not sure of the costs involved.
We have rowed up almost all our wheat or barley straw and get paid per bale and despite almost all of it being dropped dry in a baleable...
Pretty straight forward really, ask for the quote to split out the cost of the header. Had lime green dealer and yellow dealer quoting for combine with/without header and a red dealer quoting for a Macdon header. I think they are all aware that there are other options out there for big headers...
Straw in all its forms is a p.i.t.a. - chopped its causes issues with slugs and drilling, rowed you cant get on with liming of sludge spreading or OSR drilling, baled they are in the way waiting to be collected, stacked in a gateway for export and get set alight!
In Kent the going rate is a...
@Feldspar 8km/h if its the first pass and its rock hard like last year, but more usually 10km/h is fine and gives a fairly comfortable 40ha day with the 6m machine. Points, wear rate is good, we welded on a ferobide tile above the tungsten which has dramatically increased their life. We use it...
The Surface is in my opinion a very effective and versatile cultivator. Although Cousins seem pretty useless at marketing it. 6m version has 40 tines, with 60mm points which moves a lot of the surface, i have seen very few weeds survive when using it. Its pulling requirement being about 45...
Rob, i would weld on a Ferrobide tile sold by Spaldings to prolong the life of the point before it wears around the back of the tungsten. Would greatly increase the life of the point which is quite pricey to buy new.
It would be fantastic if everybody that read this thread would invest in an owl box (http://www.barnowl.co.uk/product6.asp).
To have your farm chosen as place of residence by a Barn Owl is priceless.
