Good evening all,
I am running 300kg calves to 500kg stores then sell them.
I would like to increase my stocking density to 1.5 to 2 per acre. I take a cut of haylage over 4 acres and graze the cattle over the rest etc.
I have read an article about sprouting barley hydrophonicaly, which has...
I am thinking about feeding some flaked maize to my beef cattle to add a bit more starch to their diet.
Dairy cross British Blues and Angus, currently up to about approx. 500 - 600kg.
I am feeding them 4kg rolled barley with protein, 2kg 16% Nut and as much decent first cut silage as they...
I’ve thought about this for a while but there seems to be a growing interest amongst some of us to try and lower our costs and finish cattle off forage alone.
Obviously there are many who don’t feel this way and thats grand but i think it would be of interest to have a discussion on how folk...
Hi all.
Just wonder what everyone feeds there calves for weight gain.
We just housed our store calves and got them on to silage. The calves are around the 1 year old mark. Every year we generally just get meal with 15% beef mix. I know the higher beef mix content, the more expensive it will...
My 10yr old cow has had a c section 10 days ago.The calf was dead inside for about 2 days according to the vet. Since suffered swelling of the site and is passing muddy coloured urine. Any opinions please. She’s on anti-inflammatory and antibiotic injections
We've always reared 30 - 40 calves a year to sell at 12months old but with the current low calf price im thinking now may be the time to up that number abit . The only problem we have is limited winter feed but access to plenty of straw. So im wondering how long i could keep feeding them straw...
What calf starter pellets does everyone use?
I've been on stobarts 18.5% for a while, but it's full of wheat feed and palm kernel, looking to move on to something else for the first 12 weeks of life.
Been offered some milk calves from a local dairy herd, hereford & bb x, at £120, I quite keen, to talk over missus> What everyone thinking.
Working on £3 of milk power a day - does seem right....
Hi folks, I have a couple of growers that I’m taking to finishing weight. I’m looking to decrease my feed bill. Has anyone finished a pig on anything other than pig feed and still got a good carcass without too much fat?
Thanks
Morning
We run a small suckler herd and block spring calf. Calves would be spent and reared on through the winter with half then finished here and the rest sold store at 14month.
All native smaller type "hairies".
Normally have fed a barley blend 16% type calf rearer and fairly good silage...
Have had the thought of using oats and barley this winter For cattle finishing and rearing.was after the cheapest way of boosting the protein ?
have used home n dry in the past which worked well but it there a cheaper way?
sugestions for finishing and rearing blend would be very helpful
This is a thread for those who feel guilty about cluttering up dear old GUTH’s beloved price tracker with the chit chat that stop us all being that miserable our families would throw us all out to sit with the dog in the porch. All are welcome, you can even post prices if you want. The only rule...
Have mostly hay this time so thinking about giving youngstock some rolled barley aswell. How much should I work on? Not looking to fatten just keep a nice bit of frame on for spring turnout
