In my experiance its all due to the check valves.they are open or shut and nothing inbetween.my last case,a 590 t i had without check valves and it was fine.think they are now a legal requirement though.i like the look of the latest 3cx but know they are troublesome as jcb build em lighter and lighter.i tried a contractor model before the case.it was an evo with the roof that channels rain and water down the middle of the windscreen.picked it up on a frosty morning and had to have intermittent wipe on for 4 hours.that really pee'd me off

@nick... You like your Volvo 360s, have you ever tried their backhoes? Supposed to be very good. Probably not in budget for OP I'd imagine though.
Yes the volvo is probably the best if truth be told.largest torque converter and unmatched pushing power.i have used them and would of had one if i could have had one from duxford and not the local dealer.they are a bit expensive and heavy and slow on the road but a brilliant machine.unfortuantly volvo are stopping building them and getting badge engineered diggers from china.volvo never pushed the machine either for some reason

I was told check valves now a legal requirement on anything over 5 ton.

I don't think Duxford are interested directly unless you are willing to spend at least £150k. They're quite happy to farm out sales of their mini and midis to the dealers though.

NH / Hitatchi are buy far the best built, and the added bonus is that you can actually see past the loader frame and see what your front bucket is doing, (unlike others).
