“Is jetstream position major cause of so much rain”?

I have put this thread on “Agricultural Matters” as opposed to “ Weather” to get as much feedback as possible.
Thanks.

We had some pretty wet autumns/ winters during the late 1970's, 76 for example started raining here august bank holiday and was so wet we had to have the cows in night and day before mid Oct, I remember my old man complaining that we couldn't rely on frosty spells to spread much for several winters , then in the early eighties we had some really cold winters, it would be no surprise to see a repeat of that pattern .
It would be interesting to see the track of the jet stream and other events such as volcanic eruptions during that period.

The tongan volcano was unprecendented in recorded history in terms of the amount of water vapour ejected into the upper atmosphere.
For those who wish to pretend man is responsible for the supposed climate ills, this is an irrelevance despite the fact that water vapour is a greenhouse gas and their religion is based on greenhouse gases being harmful.
If it's not man made than it doesn't count and extreme weather(if from it, who really knows) can happily continue to be blamed on you and me and our "toxic" co2 emission addiction

I've always thought it arrogant and pretentious to think that mankind can influence the planet's climate.

In answer to the OP, the jet stream really just determines whether our weather comes down from the north or up from the south. It's a barrier between polar and equatorial weather systems, so its position north or south of us is influential.

Tongan eruption put millions of litres of water into the atmosphere,
I often wonder if that has influenced the amount of vapour trails we see these days, there does seem to be much more of them.
Of course this spawns all the chem trail nonsense but I think it could just be more humidity up there to start with. I still see very high planes during spells of fine weather not leaving any trail.

Noticed several “rainbows” up the clouds the past few months, like a shard of rainbow amongst the clouds. Never seen/noticed it before

This year especially, but was looking back at summer photos from 2016 the other day and the trails were similar.

Feck these chem trail people get on my nerves, seems to be more and more of them.

My understanding it that the jet stream is the main driver of what weather we get although it doesn't create rain as such.
The jet stream can though direct what rain there is, to you.
The fact there is 'more rain' is due to higher temperatures and generally more energy in the atmosphere to create and hold more water vapour.

I think/hope you mean contrails rather than chemtrails;

What are contrails?

Contrails are formed when water vapour and fine soot particulates from burning jet fuel freeze into ice crystals. In low air humidity, the crystals just dissipate. In higher humidity, they persist, and end up creating visible vapour trails over large areas of sky.
Those humidity differences explain why some aircraft are seen producing vapour trails while others do not.
