“Neoprex 25” for controlling fly larvae on heaps of chicken manure?

Has anyone used the above , if so was it successful.
As said in another thread there are two long heaps of chicken manure 55mtrs from our cottage, so looking to control flies!!!!!
We have an electric “Easyzap” fly killer but not a lot of use.

Back when every where else was saturated , some one thought it a good place to put it as a last resort. The Velcourt manager (they contract farm the land for the estate that owns the field)has apologised and said they were meant to tip it further back up
the field but it was too wet to get their, great I don’t think

As I am a born and bred country guy ex farmer, I like to have a bit of understanding,my dear wife is not so tolerant!!!!!!!! I will leave it at that.

What kind of muck is it? High N poultry manure has to be sheeted to prevent leaching. This would also reduce the fly and smell problem.

Hi @Brisel , it is poultry manure, of some sort, whether,it came from layers, broiler or turkey houses I would not know.

Perhaps Velcourt would pay for those clever fly-control wasps? I am told they work well enough in warm weather.

Sincere apologies , the product is “NEPOREX” and not as per thread title, of which there are different strengths. It is a residual larvaecide , one of the active ingredients is “cyromazine”.

Well it’s dry enough for them to move it somewhere else now. We’re all country dwellers, and we accept ‘country smells’ as we should. But leaving a chicken midden 2 tramlines from someone’s house is a bit of low trick, and Velcourt should agree to shift it if you ask.
If they won’t play ball I’d mention ‘environmental health’, ‘local press’ and ‘if no one appears by lunchtime’.

Ask them to sheet it down and offer to help them do it. How big a heap is it? You get less smell & flies. They get to comply with the law and retain more of the N.

Two blokes and a wide enough sheet to straddle the pile as it is pulled over... Agree, it is dreadful stuff to deal with.

In answer to the OP's question, it is probably too late for the neporex to be effective. You can sprinkle the granules over manure, but we find it is far more effective at suppressing the larvae at egg stage rather than killing the maggots.

But as others have said, this situation never should have arisen - laws were broken as soon as the manure was tipped and left uncovered. The farmers responsible should be pressed to move or cover it immediately under threat of a call to the EA.

Once it is gone, some neporex might be helpful on the residue to suppress any further fly problems.

It is not going to get any better and if nothing is done you will be plagued all summer with flies.
The stockpile needs sheeting and whoever does it needs to make sure there is a good seal all of the way around the pile.
