10 in 7 milking + summer diet

Have you adjusted the feed rate?

Are they having the same concentrate per milking or did you increase it to compensate for the lower visit number?
I haven't touched the cake (except for fresh calvers until they're on 8kg and cows due to go dry who go to 0kg a week before dry off) in the interest of a fair experiment

Spring calvers get 4kg per milking and autumns are about 2-3kg per milking

Good on you for sticking with, still early days but very promising. Grass allocation harder to judge?
Like you say early days still but going to keep going for a bit longer, just don't want milk to plummet in a week's time!

Grass allocation is fine at the moment because they only get an acre per day. I imagine when they're out full time it will be more difficult but I'll cross that bridge when I get to it 🤣

Surprisingly nothing. Still flicking between 4 and 4.25% fat and protein is still 3.4%

Assume that's with one parlour visit worth of feed less on the once a day days. I imagine if you factor that in and the reduction in labour(/ increase in sleep!) that you're quids in.

What aren't you 100% happy about? That you're not doing what you "should" be doing, or something else?

So you'd be feeding around 1.5t cake /cow then

Basically yes, it feels "wrong" I also can't stand seeing milk dripping when the cows come into the parlour on the morning milking after once a day
I think it's just a mentality thing but I just have this voice in the back of my head screaming that I should be milking 🙈🤣

So 8kg in the one milking days?

They were dripping milk here this morning on twice a day milk 🤷‍♂️

It's something I'm not really used to tbh, it's less dripping and more pouring tbh, a parallel parlour would probably help as its when you have a slow cow opposite a fast cow or a heifer. I doubt it's actually as much milk as what it seems tbh, just another one of those things that bugs me 🤣

That not leave an energy deficit?
Quite possibly however, they are able to eat more silage so possibly not as much of an energy deficit as what you might think.
Hopefully once they're grazing 24/7 (if we get some rain 😬😬 ) then grass will be nearly as high me as cake

Next year I'll hopefully have maize and better quality grass silage to feed than what I'm feeding now
