If you are running a no load start compressor I think you should be easily able to run 40-45 hp
maybe more with a soft start system as well.
speak to the compressor makers as they will be the ones who are expert

If you use this useful table for your values (the power factor should be on the motor plate), then it should supply the max power. Trying it with a p.f. of 0.8 gave an answer of 55kW or 73 hp.

try getting that started on a 100amp fuse! Starting current could easily be 5x FL current

We have a 80KVA genny running off a 100hp engine that load banked at 106 amps. Runa 12 ton batch drier with it. Would prob run a bigger one I reckon.

Dunno if that info is any help or has any relevance though.

we have a 40hp drier fan which peaks at just over 125amps momentarily before falling back to about 50 (i think) star delta starter

That reminds me of a story dad has often told from when he was in his teens, when they used to start up the old 3 phase grain driers (long since scrapped and replaced with a mobile drier) the lights used to flicker and go dull across the village?the electricity board then put a separate 3 phase line in just for the farm so only the farm’s lights went dull after that

We had endless complaints from the local village about the tv reception going haywire when father used his welder in the evenings, before we had 3 phase put in. Of course they had put up with the problem for a year before anyone realised why the screen used to shrink.
Their issues were nothing, with half of North Bedfordshire screens disappearing, every time they started the wind tunnel up at Thurliegh

If @Zebbedee needs massive amounts of motor power would it not be possible to run 2 or 3 seperate smaller motors/machines and start them individually, thus lessening start up load, and would give a bit of redundancy for breakdowns or light use as well?
