12 to 24v converter

Got an old machine with 4 solenoids. They all work one at once. They are 24v 1.5A solenoids.

I used one of these

Car DC 12v to 24v Step Up Converter 10A 240W Regulator Power Supply Voltage Inverter Changer Adapter for Vehicle Boat Truck Van Boat Solar System DC 9-20V Inputs 24V Output https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07Q2CHC2Q/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_JCWlDbEA5AKR6

And some switches to work the solenoids and it worked for a while.

But now the converter is only outputting 12v. Any ideas? Is it just poor quality converter?

Don't think your converter is big enough, google ohms law converter and put in 24v x 6a and you get 144w and you need at least double that going into your inverter/converter

Why? Only one solenoid at once, so need 24v 1.5A. (36w). That one outputs 24v 10A, 240w.

Sorry, didn't read your question carefully enough, yes sounds like a poor quality unit but should be big enough.
You could open it up and have a look inside but even if you spot something burned out with modern stuff you can't just change a component.

Any ideas where I can get a similar unit but better quality?

No, but when you do find one: heat is the enemy of these- make sure the heatsink is bolted to something large, metal and cool so it doesn't warm up. Cheaper ones can be very inefficient, wasting over 50% of the energy as heat.

Bear in mind solonoids / relays will induce a massive emf each time they are turned off if there is no snubber / diode across them, which any electronics will not like, on top of that they are a purely inductive load, again not good- ideally you need a constant small purely resistive load e.g.. a filament bulb across the converter all the time...
