Had a lister nova for 20years, trimmed serious amounts of arses! Had a few(2-3) handsets as they've been dropped I think?
First flexi drive did 15-16years, the next did 12months, the next 6 months and the current has been in 2years.
If we were looking for another we'd get the same.

got an alligator [euroclip] 12v [similar to gem 12v ] years old but very good and fast too . it needs its own particular flexi drive for best speed and power , but which should come with it anyway.good set and have shorn with it in the past and it went well ...dagging and bellying is a doddle with it . but the switch was always breaking so i botched it with a suspended light switch and been no problem since.
also got a longhorn rambo 24v /12v/240v [with appropriate transformer/converter] which i love ....without doubt .... it is excellent.... bit slower but powerful ideal for dagging and bellying.could probably shear with it as well if needed .though i haven't.
the handpiece with its motor in it .. feels no heavier / cumbersome than an normal handpiece with flexi.

Horner 3.2 here, must be 20yr old.

Great machine. I don't use it lots (we are never away from mains power) but iv done days shearing with it no problems. The pull switch is very sensitive, which I don't like. But after 10 or so ewes, you forget your using a 12v machine.

Horner kit is first rate, and their service is exceptional.

I wouldn't be in a rush to shear too many with the rambo...... I have a Handypiece (same type of thing) and the weight of the motor on the back unbalances it enough to leave your arm aching after a few sheep.

Still useful for shearing the odd one that's escaped the shearing gather.

Great clipping tool for using in the drench race

i have mentioned the subject before, read my old posts on it somewhere here ...

my nova is in good nick and had little work as not long after i bought it i repaired my alligator 12v ....
before this and in the meantime and i also used/use a mains lister 2 speed.

Aye I think i remember the comments;)

Your not alone, from what I can tell. The Horner machines certainly runs rings around the Nova. Grand machine for dagging/bellying but you'd feel held back shearing. Some days I feel my mains 2speed Lister holds me back... but most days it's me holding it back
