I need a better / reliable electricity supply for our grain drier. Looking at upgrading / doubling up mains etc but also considering generator options, especially in the short term. The calculations suggest we'll need 150KVA - has anyone got recent-ish prices on buy / hire to give me a ball park starting point, also suggestions of suppliers (location: south east). Thanks

Opted for power upgrade eventually as it is the most convenient option to my mind, and suits both farm and my tenants needs.
A Genny will cost less but is more hassle year round.
If you upgrade power discounts may apply if other residents close to the yard benefit as well.
Don't go over the threshold power availability for half hour metering if possible as much more expensive per unit you will find.

The big national hire companies are probably your best starting point whoever offers good coverage in your area speedy hire , john F Hunt etc
long term a used purchase is probably your best option cost wise but if you get problems mid season with it , Who you going to call ?? and do you want the hassle.
they will probably want hired plant insurance cover on the rental that may or not be included in your farm policy but worth finding out as its going to add to the cost.

long term adding more capacity to your mains supply is as mentioned the ultimate option as your usage is unlikely to drop
