1994 Massey Ferguson 8120 hydraulic intermitent lift problem

Hi guys I need help, Ive bought a Massey Ferguson 8120 1994 model and its been great for about 8 months. The other day while cutting grass the hydraulics just dropped which buried my mower into the long grass causing belts to slip, and wouldn't respond to the adjustment dial when I tried to lift it. The on/off switch at the side of the dial works fine, off position lifts mower high into the air but on position it just lowers as far as it can under its own weight by passing any depth settings I'd set. Having said that if I keep turning the switch on and off it will start to respond to the depth dial for a short period then just all of a sudden give up and lower as far as it can again. This is the first tractor I've owned so don't know a lot about them, is there anyone who could point me in the right direction. Thanks!

Can't imagine why you'd be using draft knob to handle a mower. It must be side mounted? Generally for fixed linkage work. Set dial to number 9 or all the way and use your black rocker switch beside dial to control height. Mower beds are designed to run on ground but your tractor linkage set that the mower mechanism can float some. If a trailed mower out behind, with a swivel head. Set tractors arms that PTO is level as possible to preserve hardispicer life on yoke ends.
