ice can have advertised outstanding mpg figures
but real world reality figures are much less
could battery vehicle figures be rose tinted as well?
the point i was making
ambient conditions have a major influence on performance and economy
consider how much fuel a tractor consumes ploughing
compared to low draught work
The mpg and range figures are determined by a government mandated driving cycle which bears no resemblance to reality, and this is what adverts are required to quote. The old one was NEDC, the current one here is WLTP, but the US version EPA rating is much more realistic.

The worst offenders by a long way have been hybrids.
The adverts for the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV claiming "up to 142 mpg" were tantamount to fraud IMHO.
The ones my old EA colleagues run average about 45mpg across urban and semi-urban!

How can you calculate a PHEV, full charge and run till petrol tank empty or full charge and 25 miles... or some "typical" journey. If you wanted you could claim up to 100k mpg, as long as you recharged every 10 miles

regardless of how realistic the figures are or were, they do give you a bench mark. A friend of mine used to make sure the gasoline engines for a large, Detroit based motor manufacturer made it through the emissions regs. He said if you drive it like the offical test cycle you will match the offical figures

It's ok govt giving notice of no more ICE vehicles but if manufacturers can't/ don't want to provide the alternative vehicles in that time frame It's never going to happen which it hasn't.
Then Ford being upset at having the goal post moved further away, was them saying that they could not do it then?
We need to be changing sooner rather than later. This just delays the trickle down of second hand ones.
In the end consumers will end up paying more from the delay.
As now car makers can sell us dud ice ones for longer. Which means there ramp up of EV’s will be slower as well. Which means the economies of scale of making EV’s / hybrid’s will start later. Leading to higher consumer prices

it’s bad news all round delaying the sales ban.
It would have been better to try and fail to hit that target than move it now. They could have extended ice sales if and when EV’s were in short supply in 2030.

Fire spread down the levels of the car park. That sounds like maybe something liquid was the main fuel to drip down. Wouldn’t think solid batteries would be spreading downward on the ramps.

But let’s wait to see what the fire specialists say once they’ve investigated.

To be fair there's plenty on a car which melts burns and drips whether they are ICE or leccy.
Agreed - let’s see what the accident report says.

But there’s a difference between melting to dripping and running down a concrete ramp.

Interesting that I’ve read reports of no sprinklers and the floor’s fire extinguisher being missing. This may not turn out well for the car park owners.
