1st Experience with Electric Car

Anybody fitted one for the public to use.?We've a bit of land with 3 phase cables coming over it with a lot of nearby traffic in a scenic area. What size charger could be put in?
Would it pay?

Know a rep with an ID3 who reports his car needs new tyres on driven axle every 10,000 miles.
That's a considerable extra cost when on average my petrol cars get 30,000 miles from driven axle tyres.
Are you guys running electric cars experiencing rapid tyre wear?
In the 20 odd years that the little one and I have been driving similar everyday vehicles, I've noticed that his tyres last 10 to 12 k and mine last 20 to 24 k. When I ride with him it is obvious why that is!

I was shown round a Vauxhall Mokka e recently and noted that it has a conventional lead acid battery, presumably for running all the accessories. I never thought to ask, how is it kept charged? Anyone know?

Most (all?) EVs also have a 12V battery system for the ancillary systems. Presumably charged off an alternator running on a rotating shaft somewhere. Trivial capacity and draw, I imagine, but easier than running all the common systems on silly high voltages v/v ICE equivalents.

Wouldn’t it just use a dc-dc charger to charge the 12v battery off the main 800v battery?

Its all OK whilst everything is working as it should, but I have heard of several cases where the accessory battery has lost its charge, causing major problems. A couple of months ago, a BBC presenter spent 5 hours trying to get out of his electric car when the door locks and electric windows stopped working. I believe that eventually someone smashed a window, but he had nothing inside the car that was heavy enough to break the glass.

they would not work without the 12 volt batteries either
In every petrol and diesel vehicle that I have had - and there have been quite a few - when the battery fails, it typically has enough power to operate the ancillaries but not the starter. On an EV, that situation doesn't apply. Yes THEY will design out those problems, but THEY should have done that years ago.
