2013 T0 and T1 Fungicides

I see in Bayer's recent Proline adverts they're claiming 0.55l/ha Proline at a T1 timing gives a good reduction in Ear blight (haven't the advert to hand but I think it was a 50% reduction).
Also they say Proline at T3 timing offer the best control of Fusarium? (yes, I know they would say that!).

They say never do this season what you should of done last season. But surely from the seed stock there must be a very high risk of Fusarium, so you've got to use everything in the armoury?
So will many have Prothioconazole as the chosen T1 triazole? If the claims are true of superior fusarium control then as all things are about equal then it gets the nod over epoxiconazole? Well I suppose the thing against it is the lack of Generic competition.

This weeks FW and this months Crops, have articles citing that Chlorothalonil must be used. I think an article said its offered 70% Septoria control when used as a protectant for over 30 years of trials data and the level of control has not budged an inch.

I was planning to use Tracker and Bravo at GS31, but think Proline may be in the mix now...

I use Tracker + Bravo normally at T1 but couldn't get any Tracker last year so I swapped to Firefly. Proline is my choice where the variety isn't susceptible to yellow rust which until recently most of the better yielders in the RL were. I'm growing Invicta, JB Diego & Santiago. The first 2 are not yellow rust varieties so Proline will feature in my brew at T1 unless I swap to a Bravo compatible SDHI e.g. Tracker or Seguris or even add expoxiconazole instead should another 2012 happen & I need some major curative activity. I plan to keep the new SDHIs until T2 where the best responses are to be had.

Don't rule out epoxiconazole - it's the next best triazole on septoria tritici after prothioconazole & is very good on rust. There are also generic products about so the price will be pretty keen.

I don't believe that T1 Proline has the persistence to give any control of head blight as the ear is 2-3cm from the base of the stem & is at least 7 weeks from emergence. How can it have any effect? Does systemic get from the upper canopy down to the crown or through 3 tightly wrapped leaf sheaths. If someone can point me to the right bit of botany that proves it I will eat humble pie, otherwise that's marketing b*ll*cks!

There are 4 types of Fusarium, 2 of which damage seed & the other 2 damage the ear. I can't remember which the head blight that decimated yield last year is, nor have I read Crops yet.

I havent any prices yet, but Cherokee has been the T0 of choice and price for the last few years.
Unless any crops look like they deserve anything more than token expense, I also like Mantra for T1 & T2 in crops which are less likely to have eyespot problems. You can probably mix up an equivalent stregnth generic if you want but it covers most bases.

I think those who didnt use Bravo last year will have regretted it, and can be used even late-on in the spraying season.

I gave Mantra a rest last year, but agree it covers most bases with the Kresoxim bring some Rust control benefit, its been a good source of cost effective epoxiconazole and the fenpropimorph giving mildew and rust control. :)
