2018 Balansa clover experiment

Sowed wheat into seed clover crop for grazing value and to help clover to climb up in spring.

15 HA
60kg ha wheat
60kg ha DAP
15kg ha balansa
Sown may 1st
June 25th put 125 ewes ready to lamb
July 1st another 120 ewes...

Will get up to 400 in aug sep.

Got 250 ewes lambing on wheat / balansa clover...eating wheat down nicely...still alot to go...clover is a touch slow due to tigerx chemical. So far im happy with it.

The sheep are tack sheep and no oil paintings so hard to say if meeting there needs?

Looks like you're on the right track with them, they haven't gone hungry nor nailed the crop

Yeah 250 pretty good...good party trick if can raise 250 ewes lambing on worm free ground for 3 to 4 months then strip a balansa crop off then sow to summer crop...

I need to be home and have ny own sheep.

Yeah, none too shabby Guy here is paying $1.87 for his hoggets to come here so I'll net $1.70. Happy enough with that arrangement too

They wil.stay there to early october..then lock up for seed.

When u get 281 a head does it matter..

No idea on Vax..not my sheep.

Depends on feed but will most likely need to bring in more around mid august...

Are they set stocked over all of it or is it split up and rotated?

All over it, the ewes are lambing so dont like them bunched in to close or having to move them, they a bit flighty - id say this stock agent checks these sheep once a week if lucky, i walked the boundry every day around them and they calmed down alot.

Paddock is on the highway and traffic stops them going to the front of the block alot.

They wasting much? Sorry for all the questions just have an idea about a crop of roots after winter barley followed by green feed barley or oats plus a mix of cheap clovers for ewesand lambs from 6 weeks post lamb to weaning then in early with osr maybe
