Hi All
Looking at potentially purchasing a new D Max and wondered if there’s anyone with one that tows regularly?
I know on paper it should be fine, but I’ll be towing up to 2.5 ton in very hilly west wales and I’d love real world reviews on whether its actually going to be up to the job!
Currently towing with a Shogun that could pull my house off it’s foundations without breaking sweat so there is a bit of a concern I’m going to find the Isuzu lacking.

A neighbouring farmer has changed to a dmax from a hilux, he does a lot of heavy trailer work as he buys his own store cattle in the mart and draws them home 100 miles , he says that it is far better than the hilux , 100 k km on it now trouble free .

Any of the modern pickups will out pull a shotgun.
It will certainly play with 2.5t

The general opinion around here is the new 1.9 isn’t a patch on the older 2.5 engine in terms of pulling power. Both have issues ( what doesn’t) with constant regens but are generally reliable if a bit tinny and very prone to rust underneath over time.

I would say after a 3.0 Denver and 2 2.5‘s that the 1.9 is an improvement, far smoother and quieter with an auto box, seems more reliable so far. If your worried about power, I’ve put a Steinbauer on ours, she’s now 200ps. Some dealers fit them as standard

I had a 3.0 litre dmax auto here new in Jan 21. Current model. Completely pathetic towing. Drank like a fish and couldn’t work which gear it wanted to use. Also couldn’t use cruise control with the gear level in manual where I control gears.

Sold the ute with 35k km and bought another Amarok. Best decision I’ve made for a long time

you want real experience towing with a pick up round here there is 2 I can give put weight in the bed of the pick up or else you will be skipping and sliding when those hills are greasy or wet and tyres get the best 50/50 mix you can, road tyres forget it . this applies to all pickups

Don't own one... but thinking aloud - the 1.9 has been in the Isuzu for 5 years now.

Yes, we've heard of problems - but going by on here the Ford Ranger has plenty problems, even Toyota seemingly has problems...

5 years on, Isuzu still use the 1.9 engine and are still selling plenty of pickups. It can't be all that bad.

(and to the OP any half decent vehicle should tow 2.5t, it's not a big load - they're all rated to 3.5t)
