2800 Acres To Be Rewilded

4 out 5 members of the public want rewilding apparently.
5 out of 5 want cheap food and plenty of it, they won't be so happy with the government when prices go up or the shops are empty, the government can keep prices down to a certain extent but they can't guarantee to keep shelves stocked.
In the mean time farmers need to look after themselves

I think that would only apply to a tiny proportion of homes, that are super insulated.
Since we are talking about homes not built yet, the problem is?
And any home with a roof can profit from solar, it’s a no brainer now, even if you have no roof, a home battery when they are at the right price, will also be a no brainer if you have a smart tariff.
You can get off peak tariffs now that give off peak twice a day, once about 12-4 am and again 1-4pm but higher from 5-7 pm a home battery could move the majority of a homes electric use to off peak rates. Where you paying 14p ish.

Introducing Cosy Octopus
You have to add your postcode to get a personal quote. But a battery could move the majority of your homes consumption to under 12p to the unit. So when storage is at the right price deals like this are a no brainer even for those without a roof.

And they give yet more power over to other countries, well done (not so) Great Britain.
Did someone say "land grab", seems to be an ever more common theme around the world.

A station I look out at from my window has been broken in and then planted into pinus radiata in a 15 year period, it was only just getting going !

A big place too and really good cattle country with deep soils, the only positive is I may be able to purchase their concrete troughs.

The side that can be seen from the main road isn't getting planted but 'out of sight, out of mind'

Slightly off subject bit I was just thinking about all these solar farm applications at present. I fully understand why landowners look at this diversification avenue but where is the “let’s produce more food at home which we need” concept gone?

That concept disappears when £££’s are on the table !
I heard a statistic that there’s less land used for Solar than there is in Golf courses, so that’s an easy win, put up Solar and plough up Golf courses 😉

There’s a thought!! I have no issue with landowners doing what they are allowed to do with their land. Proliferation of anything eventually leads to criticism if you look back on where UK Ag has come in the last 50 or so years. Extensive out, intensive in, hedges ripped out, big dairy herds on one site up to 10 times the size of contemporary 1960‘s driven by the need for efficiency and survival, so what will future generations make of solar farms and wind farms in 30-50 years from now? I bet there will be more criticism than abject support. I may well be wrong though!

I suppose we are in reality self sufficient in pretty much everything we can grow here. Yes, we import other things. But not usually stuff that can be grown here.

Rewilding or this …

Over 3000 acres of solar panels proposed on the Sainted Isle. So big that the planning decision is taken away from the Council and indeed Welsh government and decided in Westminster

I know that Anglesey gets promoted as the “Energy Island” but this is taking the p!ss
Where is the “Solar can’t be on good agricultural land” brigade they should be up in arms about rewilding good agricultural land. Rewilding is far worse than solar panels in my opinion. At least Solar is providing electricity as well as grass grazing for sheep.

Pig Meat? Brassica - Calabrese cannot be grown in UK for 6 months year. Pointed cabbage now sourced from Spain to reduce blotching of leaves.

Similar to the beef, thats like saying we could be more self sufficient, but not profitably or producing what the consumers want.

We import all our baked beans as the product we can grow here is not acceptable to consumers.
