3.2 ranger low oil pressure warning

My 2020 3.2 ford ranger put on the low oil pressure warning light this evening how serious is it? It has 120k on it so warranty should cover it hopefully

depending on the mileage.....Very serious!
The sliding vane oil pumps are a wearing part on them.
I didn't notice the oil light starting to give me THE warning, due to my hand obscuring it when driving my 2.2 transit. (same pump), resulting in a very fecked engine and a bugger of a job to get a lwb van and large trailer home.
The worst part is, it is not a big job to change the pump (in a transit) and it was on my list of jobs to do

So apparently it’s out of warranty and they can’t look at it until middle of July. I’m going to get independent mechanic to sort it for me is it worth changing it to a geared pump? If so what is best brand to buy otherwise is genuine the best?? Tia

When I purchased my ranger in 2020 I was told there was a 5 year 150000km warranty by the salesman so my intention was to run it until warranty expired and replace it but according to ford Ireland I only had a 7 year 100000km warranty is there anyway to check this out

Do not start the engine again until the sump has been removed and a general inspection done. If you stopped the engine immediately it might be OK. First check is to check the oil pressure sensor of course but the oil pumps are well known to have a finite life that is far too short. In general it is best to change these pumps as a routine maintenance item at around 100,000 kms/60,000 miles. I let mine go to nearer 70,000 if I remember correctly before I got motivated to send it in to a trusted mechanic to get it sorted. He fitted another genuine pump which looked identical to the original but since Ford and Land Rover had a recall to change these on Transit and Defender, I must assume that they did modify the design before doing so. They never did recall the Ranger for this issue for reasons only Ford can explain, but they won’t.

I hope it’s not as bad as mine.
Light came on, stopped it. Recovered home. New engine. I was told 2-3mins after the light and it’s terminal.
It was a 16 plate but 73k ffs. I’ll never touch ford again.
Red light means STOP IMMEDIATELY. It’s a pity that it doesn’t also trigger an audible alarm to draw attention to the red light, because sometimes people don’t notice it until it’s too late.
Ford are no better than JLR at taking responsibility for their poor engineering and parts quality/reliability. In fact it doesn’t matter much what brand you deal with, they are much of a muchness and really should pull their socks up. They knew about this issue donkey’s years ago but haven’t even warned their customers to include a pump change in their maintenance schedule, which is the very least they could do.

It takes very little oil pressure to knock the oil warning light off so hope that it wasn't low on oil pressure for a while before the light actually came on. Hence do not start engine again until it's had a proper looking at (oil drained and sump off)

That would be a good idea to put an alarm too.
it was a bright day when mine went, I noticed the light but even then it had the look of not being fully illuminated. I stopped straight away then. But too late.

There is a Facebook group called Ford oil pump failure where they recommend garages that fit gear pumps.
Had a quote today for £660,
He said once that it is gone they are a good engine but can be prone to injector problems around 100k miles

The injectors will need to be tested or replaced to hold the warranty on a replacement short motor.
I'm not sure on the Euro 6, but the Euro 5 engine injectors are likely starting to tire after 100k miles. I replaced mine when I short-motored my transit at 128k miles as they looked too worn to even bother spending the money to put them on a test rig

Roughly what would they cost to replace?
