32mm pvc pipe - fixing a mid-length break

Hi, our multispan polytunnel has overhead pipe to supply pendant water sprinklers. The pipe is pvc with a 32mm id. One run has broken mid length, at one of the 10mm pendant holes. The pipe appears to be the thin wall variant that's intended for use with domestic compression fittings. A solvent weld union I offered up earlier today is way too big to use, at 38mm id - its simply too loose. I suppose I could use a compression fitting but I know it will let go at the first tug. Does anyone have any wrinkle or handy hint that will result in a dependable, water-tight fix?

I think I’ve found a fix, courtesy of yt - use a heat gun to soften the (neatly trimmed) broken pipe in order to introduce a flare, then join the two sections with solvent in the usual way. Can anyone think why that wouldn't be a satisfactory solution?
