3rd party chasers - Insurance

Anybody any experience in this? We had a tractor supposedly involved in an accident a couple of years ago. The claim against us never got to court as the other party sent a notice of discontinuance. Basically their client had lied to them and had the car completely renovated on the back of the claim. Anyway matter settled and we have legal docs confirming it.
Now two years later the claimants insurance company is chasing us directly via a 3rd party. First a couple of letters, which our insurers said ignore and now they’ve turned up unannounced in the yard. Again our insurers have said send them away but I don’t really want to be chased for something we haven’t done. Do we need to get a solicitor involved?

Yes had something similar in the late 90's. Send the 3rd party a copy of your documents confirming it was settled and state that any further time spent dealing with it will be billed to them at £100/hour+VAT and failure by them to pay any bill raised will be perused through the courts.
Mine went away and never came back.

What did they say in the yard, they cannot take anything without a court order, which will not have been issued without your having been notified of a hearing.

Not a lot because they wanted to speak to the policy holder. What they don’t know is that the policy holder is the business so isn’t a single person as such. They left saying they would be in contact via phone, but we’ve heard nothing since.

If they don’t know the who the policy holder is they going to struggle. And of cause you won’t be able to tell them anything because you are worried it would be in breach of the Data Protection Act!
