4 cylinder question.

Currently running a 160hp 6 cylinder but looking to change it shortly. It’s main jobs are ploughing with a 4 furrow reversible, 3 meter power Harrow, bailing, cutting silage, slurry tanking and silage/grain haulage with 12 ton trailers.
Thinking about changing it for a 4 cylinder, the 6130R Deere and New Holland T6.175 are the ones that stand out. Would the 4 cylinder be a noticeable downgrade from the 6? Also planning on front and back mowers, would double mowers in heavy silage be asking too much from a 4pot?

130R and T6.175 are boosting. The boost won't activate always on Cnh tractors, but our 135 Maxxum (boosts to 169hp, base hp is 145) can handle all the jobs mentioned. But, if i wanted 160 hp, i would buy one with base 160hp with a possible boost.

Wouldn't be a problem for our 4 pot Kubota's, it is after all a 6.1 litre engine.We plough with a 5 furrow plough and combi with a Horsch KR Express which is very heavy duty along with a 1.8 ton front mounted press.It does these tasks with plenty to spare.

It’s a T6080 power command, had a quick look, always thought it was 160hp but turns out it’s 150hp before boost ( don’t bother with boost figures as this tractor is erratic with when the boost kicks in )
Quite like the idea of the high power 4 pots - nimble around the yard and perfect for fertiliser, cultivation work, but powerful enough for haulage etc. Only issue would be capability with front and back mowers!

The price difference between a identically specced 4cyl and 6cyl is so small that i would stick with a 6cyl personally

Depends on make, model, deal on offer etc.
Sub £3k between t6 and t7S

t6175 is the same size as the 6 cyl t6180. Deere will be neater and should go with double mowers if your not in a massive hurry

Yes sorry that's what I meant, less than 3k from t6.175 to t6.180, less than 3k from t6.180 to t7S, personally prefer rangecommand to the sle

I'd spend the money on another furrow and a extra meter of power harrow. Save a lot of hours [emoji16]

Have just done what you are asking, replaced a MF6480 with a Valtra N174. The Valtra does everything as good as if not better than the MF.
5 furrow vari width plough, 6m tine drill, 3.2m krone mounted mower and 16t trailers are the implements used so far.

That's probably a good idea tbf, adding an extra 20hp when changing to 4cyl should ensure you aren't struggling

Also very nimble to get around with the sprayer and ferty spinner. Only down side you do need a bit of weight on the front at times.

Conditioners on the mowers?
Should be fine either way really unless you're in massive crops or want to mow at 20mph everywhere.

Had local contractor pull up with his new reversible next to my old bamford 4f. Massive difference in furrow size, could pull the bamford with 70hp, contractor reckons that his 4f can make his puma struggle on bad ground.
