there are no more payments for new entrants, they stopped 1st april. some of the elec companies are paying you for export now tho.
as for cost of install, it depends on who is installing, if you are doing it your self a kit is just over £2000

You’ll need a smart meter so you can apply for SEG which will be a new export payment scheme when it’s issued. This payment will be back dated to commission date and contract with export licensee you choose. A fella told me he paid 9k for 3kW by some scummy git in January. Got upsold a power balancer too. Get some quotes and exercise them here for us to look over.

Use this site for installers near you
https://www.microgenerationcertification.org/consumers/installer-search/

You’ll need an MCS certified installer to claim SEG

I believe this is the official figure you have to quote when selling, am I right?
My own experience is we are getting much better than this. It may be different in 20 years time though.
Yeah it’s the official MCS sunshine hours. People can get up to 10/15% more but that’s the slap on the back you get from customer when it DOES produce more. Everyone is happy.

Mine across the board are doing an average of 980 Kwh per Kw installed. But this does include a small amount of East West panels.
Those panels are still managing 880Kwh per Kw installed

So I would only really import when it's dark ? That is no problem
In reality ita not that simple.
I have a 4kw system on my house. This time of year its exporting a lot, whereas the darker half of the year it makes no where near enough to run the house.

I balance it a little with an electric heater in a north facing room and a towel rail both running off excess power. If you have a hot water tank (I dont) you can burn a lot more excess power heating water, though you will still be short of power at night and all winter
