895xl Glow Plug

Afternoon All.

895XL proving hard to start these cold mornings even after 30-40 seconds in the spring loaded ignition position, and a few pumps of diesel.

Misfiring a lot the past few weeks.

Battery fine, and new starter kit (and glow plug) fitted last year when she was in for her annual service.

Have read elsewhere that the glow plugs haven't a massive life expectancy.

To change the glow plug from memory is as simple as disconnecting the power from the spade terminal, screwing out the old and replacing with new?

Yes it's that simple to change those thermostarts.
Try seeing if it's working though by having someone hold the key in heat whilst you hold the body of the heater to earth out of the manifold.

are you giving it excess fuel on the pump, this is controlled by the stopper in the cab ?

other thing is some people give it to much heat, and i will explain it,
the they turn the key to the heat position and hold it there for to long, Why you ask
well you turn the key to heat, after about 5 seconds the heat coil opens and lets fuel on to it and the inlet manifold, the fuel burns from contact with the red hot coil. and if you hold it for another 10/15 seconds more fuel is let in and burns and gives of a lot of heat,
But think about it here, while your giving it a good heat and coil is burning fuel, it is also using up the oxygen while burning, and when you turn it over it wont fire, as the fuel injected has little or no oxygen to burn under compression,
