9/10 Ton Site Dumpers

I'm thinking of buying a dumper, around 08, only drove one for a couple of hours and don't know much about them. What should you look out for and what makes should I avoid. Thwaites, Benford/Terex and Barford seem the most common.

You shouldn't go far wrong with a Thwaites. Just have a good look at centre pivot bearings and ram pin for wear.

Very little between any makes nearly all use axles engines transmissions from same one or two manufacturers. Thwaites may well edge it for many but do have the worst paint.

Thwaites will be the one to go for.they all get problems due to being used by idiots on sites and abused continually.they all wear at the centre pivot and steering rams but not a big job to do.ive run a couple in the past but only one now and it’s very handy on the farm.

Some of the dumper driving I've seen on site makes me cringe....

I was to look at a Thwaites but when I landed there it was sold, he has either a Benford or Barford coming in, can't mind which now, because the name is similar, do they give any particular problems, just a couple of other people said go for the Thwaites as well.
Is there much difference in a 6 and 9 ton, I know there is a 3 ton difference but in reality is the gap that big. I see a few fresher and cleaner 6 tons for sale at less money

I'd say if you can get a tidy example of one of the other brands then you'll be ok. Are you going to be doing loads of work with it? Or is it for occasional use.

The advantage to the 6 tons class, is you have a good chance of getting a swivel skip. Which can be very handy. Another factor is what size machine you will be loading it with?

It's for farm use and will be used on Saturdays, evenings and holidays from work. I'm digging out nowes and filling hollows. The plan is to keep it for a couple of years and when I'm finished, sell it.
I would be filling it with a 13 ton machine
