9500 sq ft new concrete floor cost...

I know, I know, another concreting cost question...

Am looking at replacing a knackered cattle shed with something more general purpose, on the same footprint.

Existing building has a concrete feed passage but otherwise chalk floor, but I'd replace the lot I think.

Anyway, if say 880 sq m, at 150mm that's 132 cubes which will cost say 11k in concrete, plus a bit for apron etc, but what any guesses on cost to lay and power float? Reasonably confident in doing subbase in house, but I'm not going to be laying a slab that big. Any rules of thumb etc that I can work off before getting quotes?

If It’s laid at 150mm you will no doubt use 175mm £14630 if you buy it approx £96 per cub. Not sure it’s the right mix at 83 per cub but any way big saving doing it your self which ever way you look at it

Sorry to budge in but any ideas on cost to lay a concrete track? Going onto an existing slate sub base track so just road forms/timbers for curve, set rebar and screed It. My calculations based on 3m wide and 300m long is 136 cubes @150mm ish. Trying to persuade myself first before ringing for idea on price to lay it!!

An easy one to lay yourself IMO with the help of 2 or 3 good lads.
Hire road forms & a 3.5m vibrating beam is all you need.
Texture with 4 x 2 beam. Don`t think you need to float a road
Did our 400m road a few years ago. Had enough forms for 1/3rd of it.
Set forms over weekend , conc on Monday.
Moved forms Tue / Wed conc Thurs
Move forms Fri / sat finished Monday

Assuming it`s not practical to sheet it, Consider spraying it with curing compound, especially if quick drying weather

Yes finding someone to help is the challenge and usually easier just to get someone to take the job on and do the labouring with them!! Will have to ask around see who has some forms really. It’s all running down hill aswell which can be fun or work in favour!!
 
As a guide this is how I would quote. Grade out and level and compact base, supply and set forms, supply and lay dpm, supply and lay a252 set on wire chairs, supply lay concrete 150mm, powerfloat, supply and spray concrete curing agent, remove forms and cut crack inducing joints £40m2 ( this price would not include any aggregate to bring base to on grade)

I had a plant a mile away, it’s been sold up so the saving I made has now been outweighed by the hassle.

the guys that come in get a much better rate and can do big pours in one go as they have the kit to do it. We used to do smaller pours and lots of them, paid £114 /m3 last week and said that was enough of it, they charged £140 for under 3m3 and delivery on top!

guys quoted 2k more to update a quote from 6 months back on an 18 k job due to Covid it seems

The plant local to you supplied concrete, and now it doesn’t and prices have gone up.

Can contractors really get a better rate on the concrete?

Are you saying that as it’s most expensive to buy the concrete it makes paying contractors to do the job more accurately justified based on savings in material costs?

That’s dear we paid £82.50 /m3 last week.
 
The cost to do a drive or a shed floor is about the same there is more work in shuttering a drive and a pav2 is more expensive than a c40 but brush or tamp finish saves some time at the end of the day of lay.

Not just a better rate, they can actually get it, and get it all when they need it, not 3 load then the 4th 4 hrs later when its too late. Everyone around here is flat out, the Covid doesn't seem to have dampened building projects at all. Speaking to a partner at Savills yesterday, he said he has never been so busy with sales and lettings.

my point I clearly made badly was our saving in two of us concreting small bits our self was in the labour, even if we over paid on the concrete a bit and put up with the lax service.

Now prices have gone up a lot for us, the saving is less, the hassle is worse and I am also behind so allocating resources in other places and leaving the true professionals to do the yard is the best way forward. they also can do more in one hit and do it certainly no worse than us.

difference between North and South Sadly. Some may say its reflected in the rents though, so long as they keep paying. Who would have though F & B's would default, id have been very happy to have them as an anchor tenant 12 months ago!
