Back to the 70s/80s?It would seem that crimper rollers are in vogue right now. Here are some of the ones I found today:
I was reading back along a study (with results) on crimp rolling vs other methods for crop termination (included a break down of all crops trialed), saved the website somewhere! but basically given the results crimp was never satisfactory vs mowing or undercutting on its own. Mowing seemed the most effective overall, undercutting variable, and crimp rolling hardly worth the diesel on the greater majority of crops. Obviously there must be a time or place, but most tend to roll then desiccate which is fine if your not organic! still it seems like a good excuse to sell even more machinery to farmers.
Think im going to either flail mow or pick up a large sickle mower to go on the front of the tractor to lay the cover crops flat.
Cover crops must be mandatory in Germany? Don't think i saw one field of bare stubble. Did a fair bit of miles between hannover, bad pyrmont, dusseldorf and harsewinkel.
