A.I Liquid nitrogen flask lifespan

Location

Ive just read the manual for an MVE ET20 flask , the ones with the orange lid. The life expectancy is only 5 years. i was wondering who has the oldest flask still in use and how do they get on insurance wise or do they just accept the risk of loosing all their semen straws when the flask fails ?

We changed ours after 30 years, was just taking more nitrogen at each fill, new one was same price as the old one but I bet it won't last so long.

Don’t know the make of my 2 flasks, blue lid and blue top on plug. One was bought new 35 years ago and has been continually topped up by Genus and uses little nitrogen. The second was bought second hand, used periodically for the heifers and is allowed to go dry after use, probably 40 years plus old. Buy a good quality flask and look after it, the 35 year old flask has never been moved. Insurance only for sub 5 year flasks, any semen in the flasks is used up quickly as we block calve.
