In my experience, the years when plenty of forage is made, it’s all needed, a lot can happen between now and spring 2025
This is true but stock numbers are now reaching levels not seen in our lifetime. So many folk have sold the stock but are still making hay or silage in the blind hope that they will find someone to buy it .There’s still heaps of last years silage about in fact I was being offered it for nothing in the spring out of Aberdeenshire but I didn’t need. I don’t take grass out and about but I have been offered grass keep this spring which is a first.

Not many had much carry over around here this spring (midlands/wales border) quite a few buying in all their forage requirements for several weeks before turnout

I would be an exception to the norm but I’m always paranoid about running out and make decisions accordingly……usually to try and make plenty, we did use about half of our supply of last years straw last winter along with some left over from 2and 3 years previous,

Could be foddering cattle soon if we get a drought
