A Question for the New Holland Experts

I am thinking of changing my Ford 6640 and went to look at a 2004 NH TL90A today. A couple of things I was thinking about after I left the dealership as I am at the just looking stage.
1 No front mudguards and on the road it was doing a max according to the dash of 32kph, I thought they were all 40K or am I wrong?
2 PTO It seems to be 540 and a ground drive o_O and no 1000 speed pto, would I be correct thinking this? And what blessed use is a ground speed pto for normal farming?
I thought all modern tractors had 540 and 1000 speed pto, even the DBs in the late 60s had this feature.
If some of the NH experts could let me know what is what on these Fiats I would appreciate it.
And please no advice to buy a non blue tractor, this is blue country here with a number of very good mechanics who know blue tractors.

The replacement for your 40 series would be a TS. TL's are derived from Fiats I think.
I know that the direct replacement for my 40 series would be a Tsbut there are not too many TSs about, likewise the Case equivalent. There are a lot more Tls available especially in the 90/100 hp range. The higher hp tractors would be too big to go into the stock sheds.

Is it the one at a Valtra dealers? If so I notice that it has no weight carrier either, has it had a loader fitted? Does it have dual power?
You are on the ball, it has dual power but there has not been a loader fitted as the plastic caps are still in the frame bolt holes. I failed to see no weight carrier either:banghead:.
If the is no 1000 pto then it is no good to me.

Must just be a very basic spec tractor for a market gardener or something along them lines. If only 30k and no 1000 speed PTO I would leave it, for a tractor of that age you would want 40k and a selection of PTO speeds as a minimum

Not in any hurry to change but there are very few decent tractors about s/h in the hp range I want.

Does it have a clutch as opposed to a 'wet' clutch? Sounds like a very basic model. We have a 2003 Case JX90U here which would be the same tractor but ours has 40k, 3 speed PTO + ground drive I think??), 24 x 24 transmission, power shuttle and splitter. Best tractor we ever owned. Bulletproof.

Think the T5040 has a lighter front axle than the 5050/5060
Nope, same axle as 5050/5060/5070,i have a 5070 and 5040 which is the same axle as the newer T5105/115,stronger axle than the TL/TLA.Go for a deluxe spec rather than classic, better spool valves, mirrors, hook ends on link arms ,more likely to have aircon and seat too.Shouldnt really go wrong with one of those,no particular weak points, but don't buy one without a powershuttle.

I will have to make further inquiries on Monday about the pto speeds but it feels like a wet clutch. I do not want a dry clutch as brother drives the tractor now and again and is not the best of drivers.
Thanks to every one for the advice and information.

Tl100 here, pto has 2 speed plus eco
Ours has dry clutch but haven't had problem
( yet) quike loader fitted but the one fault I find is that it's very light on the back end
Overall it's been a good reliable machine without being ott on electrics
Ours has 3 range four speed and splitter, shows 24 mph on road

Nothing wrong with the TL 90 but its not the tractor a 6640 is, lighter build, smaller engine capacity, the newer 50 series or case JXU are more capable.
we have run all 3 models.
