AFBI is investing in plant scientists

AgriLand noted with interest that the Agri-Food and Biosciences Institute (AFBI) of Northern Ireland is advertising two positions of Science Leaders in plant health diagnostics and plant health surveillance. Both positions are based at AFBI’s headquarters in Belfast.

In the job descriptions, AFBI stated: “The AFBI seeks to invest in its senior scientific team by recruiting three internationally renowned science leaders in the areas of animal health genomics, plant health surveillance and plant health diagnostics.

“The successful applicants will contribute significantly to AFBI’s key theme of ‘Protecting animal, plant and human health’.

They will also have access to AFBI’s cutting-edge scientific platforms and will work in multi-disciplinary teams delivering excellent science and applied solutions to many of the challenges facing agriculture.

AFBI is aiming to deliver research which has an effect on local and global food and agricultural businesses.

“This exciting opportunity will ensure AFBI science delivers local impact with global reach, and this post will deliver impactful science that improves the livelihood of Northern Ireland’s people.”

Both leaders will have the opportunity to develop research programmes and will work closely together. AFBI noted that the successful candidates will be national experts in their given topic.
