Where on earth do you farm Adeptandy???? You can get GPS in some sheds depending on roof material

Post code with the avatar gets you close ;) got a Teejet Centreline 230 Boom PIlot with the SP Sprayer this year, but only picks up GPS for max couple of seconds at a time, my Tom Tom sat nav only starts to work when I leave the village and a mate came to the farm with tractor with auto steer and when we turned the base station off he couldn't get a GPS signal either :scratchhead:

PM me the night before if you like and I'll give you the rest of the post code and you can drop in the farm and see if you can find any GPS (y)

These two pictures were taken in your village.
Rtk and Egnos
Car satnav was fine. Egnos picture was in middle of high street by school. Rtk one was 100 yards further up the road!
Guess there is GPS and then there is Topcon GPS ;)

You should have come to the farm, with everything turned of and then tried to boot it all up, then I'd be more convinced ;)

I can sat nav back into the village, but not from a cold start on the farm :)

Unbeknown you could have higher than usual noise, shading or multi-path satellite reception issues. They're the biggest killers of GPS signals.

A lot of it comes down to the quality of the receivers antenna. Built-in and patch antennas, like on TomToms etc are ok most of the time, but if the reception conditions are poor then the receiver might struggle. Correction services like RTK make common in view (with the base receiver) satellites really important, so basic reception quality is key.

An externally mounted ground-plane style antenna, makes a huge difference to reception quality. Be the first thing I would recommend.

Got a mate in today with RTK on a Class tractor, very limited and patchy signal, managing to mark the field out with GPS but even thats a bit various. Mobile base station is in clear view of the fields and tractor. :scratchhead:

@Robt
Did you try changing the position of the portable base? Is it better or worse on certain days/times - or always the same? Possibly there could be some sort of local RF interference.

He's not here with it very often, and every time its been a pain so far, drilled a field for me 18 months ago and it was various, planted a field of potatoes last spring and it varied from ok to poor over the 2 days, we've varied the position of the portable base as well from in the fields to on the shed in the yard, no difference so far :scratchhead:
