Aga boiler

The parents did just that when they suffered a pinhole leak in one of the pipes inside the bulk of the cooker. Dad could not face the task of it being dismantled and decided to rely on the immersion alone. Disconnected the pipes and left it at that.

Mine started leaking in the boiler last year so I had them disconnect it when they serviced the aga. I think they replaced the insulation in there as it had become wet. I just run the immersion on a timer as we don't use much hot water, and the aga man said it would be more economical on oil, not having to heat the water. I forget the quote for a new boiler, but it wasn't worth it for us.

Is it as simple as cut the pipes and funnel sand down them?

No it isn't !!!

Who has filled one with sand, and why would you ?

To fill the boiler means getting to it, putting a funnel in and filling. To do that you may as well replace the boiler. They can be picked up s/h.

You're Oil AGA is producing uncontrollable heat, (temp) if it has a boiler, use it.

We have done this with Rayburns and have no problems, just make sure NOT to seal off the boiler connections, otherwise the boiler will explode.............?
Mark this well. I used to work with a bloke who capped off a Parkray stove which subsequently exploded wrecking his house & part of next door together with two or three (it was a long time ago - early 80's) cars outside. He was in hospital for months & off work for a year. His face after numerous plastic surgeries was completely changed & in my opinion he never really recovered from the event.
I have a Rayburn which I disconnected some 15 years back & still gets occasional use in the winter months with no noticeable deterioration.
