I'm looking to purchase a small farm / smallholding so I can expand on chicken breading and possibly have some sheep, goats etc, are the ties standard or do they vary per land.
The agricultural tie applies to the dwelling only - its when a house has been allowed to be built only on the condition that the person living in it works in agriculture (and maybe forestry) or has retired from working in those areas. The land and any buildings will just have the standard agricultural planning status, ie can be used for any food production method.
So if you're looking at a specific property with an agricultural tie the selling agent will have the exact details of what the tie entails. If you're just talking in general terms, most small holdings won't have an agricultural tie on the house, and the land and buildings will just be the standard agricultural status, ie you could buy it and live in the house regardless of what your line of work was.
