The agricultural industry is speaking to tens of thousands of teachers across the UK with the aims to challenge the negative perception that it is a low skilled, low paid career.

A new interactive digital magazine, supported by 19 businesses from across the agricultural industry, is being sent to secondary school teachers and career services advisers to share with their students.

The launch is part of the #ThisIsAgriculture campaign, which is being spearheaded by Farmers Guardian following its research which found that agriculture is rarely presented as an option for young people in education.

The digital magazine will coincide with the 2020 National Careers Week (NCW) and its publication has been welcomed by NCW Chief Executive Nick Newman who believes agriculture is under-represented for the exciting opportunities it offers.

Newman said: “Job security, making a difference and achieving a work/life balance are top of the list for talented young people looking to embark on their careers.” “This new magazine highlights these benefits are there for the taking in agriculture, it offers great content, throws up interesting discussions and I applaud the direction the industry is taking.

“We are excited to share this content on a social media platform that sees stratospheric activity throughout the whole of National Careers Week.”

Farmers Guardian editor Ben Briggs added: “With an economic contribution of more than £46 billion to the UK market alone, there is so much more to careers in agriculture than people realise. It is a hugely technical and sophisticated sector fuelled by global research and intelligence.

“It is at the cutting-edge of modern technology and at the forefront of innovations in key areas such as IT, forensics, engineering, automation and design. The industry is proud to be uniting together and reaching out to teachers to help start the conversation far sooner about why agriculture is the one to watch in the future.”

To support the careers initiative, the digital magazine is free and available to share at https://www.fginsight.com/thisisagriculture
