Agronomy manuals, what do farmers learn about soil through official channels?

Hi all, some of you will know me, I am doing a research project on bridging the farming-science gap in the context of soil management. I'd really like to have a look at some agronomy or FACTS manuals to see what farmers are officially 'taught' about soils and soil management - but my Google searches don't seem to throw up anything useful. All of you who have done FACTS and/or agronomy/agricultural management degrees, can you direct me to handbooks you were taught from? Very much appreciated! Email me directly if you like at [email protected]

Artis are running courses on it this autumn you might be able to get some stuff from them ( possible cost involved)

Have you looked at the RB209? You mention FACTS and the fertiliser recommendations come from it. Truly a Stella read!

Hi Anna.
Soil science was part of my degree course at Nottingham in the 80's. I'm sure there were text books but I can't remember any of them. You could try to contact the soils lecturers at various uni ag departments to see what they teach from.
My FACTS course 10 yrs ago was run by a chap called Jim Lewis. Google DJL Agronomics. He may be able to help. He still does training courses as far as I know.

Did Horticulture FACTS using these books:

Complete Guide for Growing Plants Hydroponically (2014), J. Benton Jones, CRC Press, ISBN: 978-1-4398-7668-8

Mostly however it is all about tedious farmer stuff - closed season for manure spreading etc etc etc which comes from government: https://www.gov.uk/guidance/managing-nutrients-and-fertilisers

Other readable sources include:

PDA literature especially good: http://www.pda.org.uk/pda_leaflets/24-soil-analysis-key-to-nutrient-management-planning/
Ditto liming association: http://www.aglime.org.uk/tech/ph_value_and_lime_requirements.php
