The free-to-use Meat Purchasing Guide (MPG) app launched by AHDB in 2013 to make meat ordering quick and easy has been updated to include several hundred additional cuts.

Originally featuring 450 beef, lamb, mutton, pork and veal cuts, the new upgrade means users now have an additional 300 cuts to choose from.

Developed for chefs, meat suppliers, buyers, product developers, exporters and importers, the app allows users to select their desired cuts and email the list direct to their suppliers.

Programme lead Dick van Leeuwen explained:
“Meat cuts can be somewhat confusing, especially with new cuts being developed, the interchangeability of traditional and modern names, and the challenges language barriers can bring.

“The guide allows us to bring some clarity and more importantly consistency to our industry, not to mention wider understanding and skills development. Plus, bringing technology advances such as the app helps our industry to modernise, making us more resilient.”

The app is part of a wider
range of resources such as cost calculators, nutritional guides, menu inspiration and more, available on the AHDB website to all those who work with meat.

The app if free of charge and available to download from App Store on Apple devices or Google Play Store on Android devices.
