Blue and black MDPE are fully interchangeable but blue is designed for underground potable water. It will degrade but over a very long period

Your right on that. It’s the cold that makes pvc like glass at minus 20 let alone minus 40. Hutterite colony friend did his workshop out very fancy. Heated floor led lights and even a dog flap for the mutt. They used pvc around the building and it worked perfect until the door was open for the day while a new lifting system was fitted. Compressor turned on and popped a pipe. Not a major issue but worth remembering.
