All combine yield monitors should be .....

The one we had that was even close to useful was on our MF 40RS back in the 90s.
Admittedly it was radioactive in a period when we all remembered Chernobyl but on the plus side actually did something.
The Case "advanced farming system" one on our axial flow was a total joke.

I thought this was going to end he was irradiated by his MF combine.

Everything is great about machinery from the USA but they shouldn't let them near technology. Except Apple, Microsoft, Google, maybe even Trimble. In fact with that background why are Case yield meters so sh!t?

Funny, mate I went to college with swears his 100% accurate 🤷🏼‍♂️ Best yields of all of us consistently as well 🤔
Yep contractor cuts my uncles best yields. Same as its a 12 ton trailer so regardless off how much is in the trailer if it pulls out the field its 12 ton. Only weighbridges give the answer. Bushel weight can decieve by 2 ton on a 12 ton trailer. Not sure how easy yield meters are to calibrate but I don't trust them

Seems an odd thread,

I compare my total tonnage every year, with the exact weight that goes over the weighbridge, and I find the opposite, im always shocked how close it is... (deere combine).

To be honest im not even hugely interested in the actual t/ha numbers anyway, the real useful data is field per field, and even within the same fields. If im trying something new (seed rate / spray / fert app / drill&establishment) etc, Ill often purposely do half a field, with a clear change, the results are normally clear as mud on the yield monitor, or nothing at all... If the numbers are calibrated / correct or not, they can still be used as a reliable comparison between fields / areas imo.

Just my thoughts anyway, I never set out to have a yield monitor originally, but when I changed my combine we aqquired it on the new machine, I would genuinly miss it hugely if it was gone now. As dare I say would several people I also cut for.

Mines not great but it’s a good guide. It’s as good as the man on the seat if you really think about it and set it up it saves counting trailers etc. we have WhatsApp groups between me and my brother so each field I take a screenshot and put it on the group so that we can look back later also he’s got a bit of an update what I’m doing

We rely on our NH meter to know what we have to sell
The JD and CNH systems are pretty good if calibrated for weight and moisture
I’ve delivered OSR into store off the combine and it’s been within 99.7% of the weighbridge
If you have one why wouldn’t you want it to be accurate ?

The combine doesn't know how wide a cut you are doing & assumes a full width cut is always being the case.

So yield monitoring is not spot on & acreage cut is wrong.

That said it gives an indication & I wish I could use it more effectively. This year just happy to get the wheat in the shed & reasonably dry.

Mine does, it uses the GPS coverage to alter header width as do all combines with Autosteer
On the old one with laser steer the header width was adjusted manually by the driver
The area mine clocks up is very close to the mapped GPS boundary area

Last two years contractor has milled wheat straight out of our 18 ton trailer and both years has got close to 22 tons…………I hope his weigher is accurate as I’m paying by the ton.

Contractor who did the combining said yield monitor said 12 ton acre……….I think that’s a bit optimistic 😂😂😂
