ok, how many farms provide changing rooms, showers, proper washing facilities and PPE/work wear, I have worked in workshops that provide that, so after work I change before going home. I have never worked on a farm that provides those facilities, so are you saying those boys should't stop for food on the way home? I think hard working lads should be fine to stop in McDonalds as they leave work, not a good restaurant, but it is a fast food outlet. I worked in the Cotswolds years ago, and used to stop on the tractor and nip into the shop to buy food for my evening meal as I passed (during harvest), if I had waited until I had showered and changed the shops would have been shut.

I have a canteen with a sink and toilet but no shower.

There is a direct link with how clean your milk is regards your milker,I keep clean milking might take a bit longer but I wash down after every side,I cannot be doing with mucky units, cows, parlour etc...

They should go through the drive through!

I never leave the farm gate without putting a clean boiler suit on,feel uncomfortable if in the yard mucky and someone lands.

Not blessed with a drive through at dorchester, had enough trouble getting a Mac Donald’s thorough the planning let alone having it as drive through as well

Fair comment, I have not milked for 30 years so I may be a bit out of the loop!

Not really out the loop there are some very mucky milkers and some very clean,I was once working at a relations of my wife’s and the old lad said right I’m off to the chip shop, feck he had slurry up the inside of both legs,I don’t think I’ve been as mucky in my life but he thought it acceptable to go for dinner. :(

All dairy farms have a wash basin, at the very least wash your hands, arms and face. Doesn’t take long. Not doing so shows a lack of standards, personally I would wonder how cleanly they milked.

I've worked on farm with changing/showering/loo facilities. 2 portacabins. 1 male, 1 female. Never took dirty overalls or wellies home. All laundered at farmers expense. This was 30 years ago, and don't think have ever seen it since. Superb. Staff very very appreciative. It was looked after. What most farmers provide for their staff is a joke......not. [emoji85]

We have a staff room, small kitchen, toilet and shower facility’s so if someone gets sh!t on milking they can get themselves cleaned up.

Just a shame the guys don’t keep it clean and tidy I usually have to send someone to clean it up.

10 years of brass ball valves and all the rubbers have started to fail so going to switch them out for this setup, lever valve will mean each trough can be turned off individually and the threaded connection means apex valve can be removed completely, twice the price of the is setup but fed up of getting soaked when maintenance needed

If you don’t put any shut off valves in, they never wear out or break. The trick is to not be the person fixing the water tanks.

Sorry should of been more clear, we’ve got brass float valves on the existing troughs that came with them, there a pain to fix, don’t currently have any shutoff valves so normally have to switch pump off back at the farm to fix anything
