All things Dairy

Can we have the story yet?
Still not heard anything off the powers that be from 8 weeks ago. (So have to be careful how I word things.).
But that slab of concrete should be 30 meters up the field and on the other side of the road, holding nearly a tank full of slurry.
Woke up 8 weeks ago with the wall in the field and not much slurry left in the pit.
I spent the next 3 days carting a lot of stuff out of two dry ditches with the tanker.
Probably the second worst day of my life !

Cows have made a new gate way onto neighbours land.

So did it make the river? Or dry ditches catch it all?
Be a nightmare to wake up to!
🤔 No comment 🤏🤷🏼‍♂️
What was in my favour was 5" of rain that week .
So over the Dee catchment area (500000 acres) 62500000000 gallons of water fell out of the sky as rain.
Yes was a nightmare, I did get emotional and cried like a baby twice that day, once when I first saw it, and later on in the afternoon, when I sat down with the wife for my breakfast. Rest of the day I was running on adrenalin, didn't stop for 3 days.

Will hopefully be putting a lagoon where the concrete ended up, every one I've spoken to so far has recommended I go the clay lining route. Need to figure a way to get the slurry 30m from the cubicle shed across the road to the lagoon.
don't forget a new lagoon has to meet all todays regulations, planning permission, and you have to inform the EA before you start, or they can simply tell you not to use it.
We are having hassle with 1 ea officer, over the size of our lagoon, it doesn't tally with his aerial photo, this has been going on for over a year, that's how we know about the 'rules', and we can assure you, some play it exactly as the rule book says, it's not only us, it's the majority of farms he visits. We are well within the regulations, as we have NVZ free land as well.

I have, but i need to get it sorted before winter, but the problem I have, is we have the 🐄 at wag wanting to put the whole of Wales in a nvz by 2025, so i have to put something in to those regs, nfu is fighting it but who knows what will happen. Also any funding to help with getting to those nvz regs, won't come soon enough for me, so i am going to have to fund the whole lot myself. Another thing is the huge rainfall events I've been having last few years. The official average rainfall is no where near what we have had, so I could do it to spec and it still not be big enough. I would love to have a shed like @Fergieman and have everything under a roof. But I'm 46 and not prepared to finance an investment like that at my age, if I was 15 years younger I would.
With the nvz coming in, there was funding from farming connect for 1 on 1 with advisers to help plan to comply with these regs and thankfully a good one was already booked to visit before the incident, which has been a great help. I did have plans to reduce the amount of dirty uncovered concrete, but the lagoon will have to take priority financially, meaning the concrete that is dirty now , but would be clean in a couple of years now comes into the calculations for the lagoon size, but once I get the lagoon sorted, and get back to sorting the clean and dirty concrete, the lagoon will be too big. But i know no one as ever said I wish I had made it smaller when building something. So a bit of a headache !!!

concrete that cows walk over, rather than a yard they are shut in, is classed as clean, if scraped twice a day. The NVZ that is being fiested onto you, is unfair.
Going back to our 'jobs worth', he hasn't replied to a question from us, about the amount of non NVZ we need, to spread the slurry, from our cattle, to be 'legal', we rung exeter office, and asked the same question, they answered, there is not a calculation for that, wonder if sh1thead will reply...........

My understanding when a nvz was threatened was if the buildings are in a nvz then full storage for all was required. The proposed line was going to include buildings and 5 acres. 240 acres outside but full 5 months would have been required.
