God, .Most of our troughs only run less than 75psi and we still get leaky ball valves even using 9" balls.

no, l tend not to watch to much farming on tv, just winds me up, it's so 'orchestrated', in fact l don't watch much tv at all, there's so much crap on there.

What ball valves have you got working succesfull at that pressure.
We are 2bar at the top of the hill and 9-10 at the bottom.

the NZ fast flow ones are good, at £40ish they should be, the ordinary brass high pressure one cope well, and we have some 'cheapie' ones from mvf, fast flow, £15ish, they were bought when we were low pressure, but they work. Leaks do not worry us, on our own supply, if we were mains ..... One of the biggest 'problems' is where manufacturers, in trying to reduce cost, the arm and ball, tend to catch under the smaller boxes.
On the pressure side, it's all about friction, and size of pipe, the bigger the pipe, the less friction, so the lower the pressure, our pressure on the top fields would be 'low', we compensate by having 500 gallon troughs, bottom fields, 18x18x10 troughs would cope, but we try and use big troughs all round, you then have a 'reserve' in case of problems. Ideally we would be 50mm pipe, all round, but we are not, so have to rely on 32mm and pressure.

Pressure stays constant whatever pipe size, what changes is flow rate which is to do with friction

We have normal brass ball valves and we’re forever changing the rubber washer in them as the pressure (8 bar) wears them out so quick

The troughs are all granant? They're Welsh and came through Bridgemans and just have the brass valve they came with.

We use metron in water and a stiff brush and scrub it all. I'm glad we have every other day collection and it isn't to do every day!

So I've had another (hopefully) dodgy bactoscan result from nml - 5326 I'm going to try and get that dropped from the average but it was the same driver who picked our milk up when we got the dodgy result last time, hes only picked our milk up twice and both times the bacto result has been way off normal, when out regular drivers pick our milk up we are always between 10 and 20 so seems very strange to say the least

Would you mention it to roddas or would you wait and see if roddas will drop the result first?

So I've had another (hopefully) dodgy bactoscan result from nml - 5326 I'm going to try and get that dropped from the average but it was the same driver who picked our milk up when we got the dodgy result last time, hes only picked our milk up twice and both times the bacto result has been way off normal, when out regular drivers pick our milk up we are always between 10 and 20 so seems very strange to say the least

Would you mention it to roddas or would you wait and see if roddas will drop the result first?

I mentioned syncing heifers the other day at grass and it sounds like it’s a bad idea in the autumn, would need to be bringing them in shortly to settle them down before we AI them, but it seems a shame when there is so much grass about, what do others do for autumn calving?

Never had much luck with the autumn group with syncing. This year have heifer cubicles on the home farm so will serve to natural heats with Heatime collars.
