All things Dairy

Currently got 180 acres of 2nd cut growing and hopefully it will make up the 40% of silage I Currently don't have, have sold 90% of my culls, will pick rest when I pd, how do you feel your mating has gone? Think will end up with sub 5% MT, if the collars are correct.
No idea really. Have been away for 8 days. Am thinking of getting eartag pedometers for next yr(with a grant)
Recon from looking at rub marks and the few I’ve seen myself I’ve got a list of about 9% including 4 who are showing dirty after the 2 hot spells 🪄

Not sure I would be happy feeding four kgs of barely and 6 of blend. Which can be done with PK. PK will also drive our butterfat.
never really felt barley was a forage replacer.
Yeah that makes sense. Do you not reckon you'll be able to find forage for sale then? Straw is cheap, obviously not ideal feed if they're lactating though but possibly work as a filler and cheaper than pk?

never been to keen on pk since l went to a 4farmers meeting, and one of the speakers said, while the feed value of pk was correct, the problem with it, was the stuff passed out the back end, before the cow could fully utilise it. Some unhappy looking reps, but he was backed up by another speaker.
Also disliked it after being told it would go through our parlour feeders, rep even checked, and they didn't, shovelled 8 ton out on my tod, they gave me a choice, sucker lorry, or free, l made the wrong choice.

you can pour all sorts of molasses based liquids over straw, to improve it.
cheap food is cheap for a reason.
is fodder short down with you ?
maize up here is making £900 plus up here. Straw is plentiful, haven't heard any hay or silage bales, prices. Fuel cost adds a chunk on it now.

Needs way more cover to hit fat class 9 ,plus more importantly £5.35/kg! Only know this as I know someone who fattens them.
daughters been on holiday down in Cornwall, farm shop/cafe on site, selling wagyu beef, in degree's of perfection, F1 to F5, F5 was expensive, she said £500/kg, but l reckon she got the decimal point, in the wrong place, an F1 very small beef burger, was excellent, at £12 a bun.
Still thought our own beef was better though.

I remember you make outdoor pens with them, is that right? How do you make a covered area.
