How does Arla 360 work? Does it guarantee an outlet for all calves?
Arla 360 has ensured that all viable calves are reared until 8 weeks since it started. Which was one of the main Standards at the start of the scheme. But this has primarily been the sole responsibility of the farmer to ensure they comply. The Arla team have worked hard creating outlets and building relationships in order to find homes. I think they have used the Arla 360 farmers as a group to see what best works.

The assistant and I took a brief break from milk this evening to haul a few loads of silage in.

@Rossymons , reading the cogent catalogues some bulls are available sexed and some 4m sexed. How many sperm are there typically in ordinary sexed? How many in a conventional unsexed straw?

Which bulls are you looking at? Looking through the catalogue some are offered as only 4M sexed whilst others have the choice of conventional if the farmer wants that option. But everything I use currently is 4M.

I was told Cogent no longer do the original version of sexed semen. They only do 4m sexed semen or conventional semen

Some bulls are only available in 4m, some are only available in conventional, some are available in both.

couldn't decide, looked a bit to large, but seemed quite strong, soon scuttled off, when we got it out ! It was lucky, only checked the trough, because pressure was down a bit !

Haven't seen any around here this year. Usually have a couple. Plenty of buzzards and foxes so there is something out there worth eating.

Seeing lots of hedgehogs too which for us down here is very rare.

I think it likely that the hedgehog situation will change markedly in the entire southwest.
However I'm sure the scientists will decide it is for a completely different region than the obvious.

we had an EA chap out, transferred out of london, couldn't understand why no hedgehogs - assuming plenty in london, well pleased when i said i was seeing a few, till i said, badger cull, complete blank look, i said badgers ate hogs, complete blank look again. The trouble is, people like him, are deciding future ag policy, he really didn't have a clue.
