in my honest opinion PKE isnt ethical and is basically only filler. Soya is ofcourse worth while having but if there are other sources Of protein available then why not. At some point even sustainably sourced soya ( which is all we use) ie not slash, burn over and over again will come under the spotlight. Helps to be ahead of the game.
and most importantly it’s nice to have some ethics
Ultimately in the commodity production game you aren’t really rewarded though. Unless feeding soy alternatives is more cost effective

I get the problem with pk deforestation etc but the palm oil plant is one of the most efficient oil production pathways. The first world demand for this natural oil isnt going away and so reducing palm oil supply means a less efficient source has to be found that will increase the area of land required and use up land currently producing other items in demand.
But fortunately for those buying palm oil in there every day products deforestation is the farmers fault because they are using pke.

i agree with you and I’m not holding anyone to ransome on this. It’s a questionable product that doesn’t need to be in there so why not take it out.

Very wet here now. All the mess on 12 hour break.

For us, it's not wet for August. August is usually crap anyway. Depending on the weather going forward, if continuing wet then that bit would probably have to be backfenced off on this farm for the next grazing, otherwise you wouldn't be grazing it next spring.

a little tlc for the dry cows pre calving. And before anyone says it ....... yes we still haven’t got a roof. Covid took care of that nicely. Different team booked who did the last shed for us and who are keen to crack on ASAP so hopefully be roofed before end of September.
They out at pasture and just on for some silage? Are you short of grass?

Way too much grass but it’s all lush short milking cow stuff. Growth knocking on 100 last week. Planning on Calving some inside so house them 10 days pre calving in the cubicles then onto straw. had way too many problems last year with dopey cows and calves at calving. Belt and braces approach this year!
