2 of ours jumped the fence today (those two are renowned fence jumpers), they were so peed off with the residual we wanted !

I struggle to take paddocks down like most people on here, did a bit of research on it a while ago and put it down to high mag soils not making the grass that palatable

We have the same problem 4 & 5 Mg indexes ,so used gypsum to improve which then released potassium that the Mg had locked away.Clamp silo nearly 3% Potassium so disaster for dry cows

Ours are high mag too. Are yours high potash? More likely to be an issue if it's palatability. A dressing of salt can help improve palatability..

High K will also do the same.

Some salt on the pasture helps

We have problems with feeding too high a % of our own grown silage to dry cows, we find 33% straw is required at all times, compromise and the wheels start to wobble

We always use CAN based fert with salt in it but always think that tiny bit of salt cant achieve to much, I get on a lot better when it's dry for hitting residual

I will pre mow when conditions allow to stop it getting to strong, only way of really managing it

Flys appeared in numbers today. So did the milkers with this as they came out this evening

Work really well apart from one that refused to cooperate

then went to check the dry cows

now heading home for a beer as it is supposed to be my weekend off, but both my relief milkers seem to have vanished now it’s summer

Iv never used fly control on milking stock never worried about it.
