how do you get on with the crimp barley, we are doing some, for the first time this year, was meant to combine, and roll for y/s, but, son put N on, when l suggested not to, so buckled over, and would need a drier to get down to 18%.View attachment 980411View attachment 980412
Our organic maize looking ok to farmer who not grown it befor going into cow diet along side crimp barley, Red clover bales, what cake saving can I expect?

Maize looks good, should be pleased with that, our late sown maize has done very well, l think if you drill later, into good warm soil, it grows like crazy, and beats weed growth.
Crimp all my grain that’s used for cow feed just use maize additive cheap as chips, we dry all the grain that we sell but as soon as it touches the dryer your talking £12 cost plus rolling say £10/12, crimp does away with the first £12how do you get on with the crimp barley, we are doing some, for the first time this year, was meant to combine, and roll for y/s, but, son put N on, when l suggested not to, so buckled over, and would need a drier to get down to 18%.

we drilled plantain, and chicory, last autumn, 1st time, plantain was good at the start of grazing, tailed off with max grass growth, now grass 'slowing', both are 'taking' over, but, it's either plantain, with a bit of chicory, or vv, but not both good together. No idea if that is normal, odd, or what, cows certainly like them.View attachment 980421
Plantain drilled in May looking awesome after a slow start with the dry summer.
Its a hybrid! Mainly fullwood working parts but it’s something myself and the parlour engineer have put together using second hand bits! What brand of parlour, looks nice and simple?
In what way? They are there as I’ve got grids for the last part of the cow platform which allows the cow sh1t to go straight through onto the floorDon’t like the bars going down to the pit edging ,
A neighbour has tried chicory here but it didn’t persist, maybe too far north?we drilled plantain, and chicory, last autumn, 1st time, plantain was good at the start of grazing, tailed off with max grass growth, now grass 'slowing', both are 'taking' over, but, it's either plantain, with a bit of chicory, or vv, but not both good together. I was wondering the same doesn’t maize need a lot of protein if feed in any quantity? Are you allowed to feed urea ?
@jimmerYou cant side step the law to sell Raw milk. Selling it is perfectly legal but you have to be registered with the FSA and follow strict protocols. Its not a case of just milking some cows and dipping a can in the bulk tank.
I know there's a labour shortage but I'm not convinced this is the answer...Heifers still haven’t got the hang of it yet
Ours still chugging along at an accidentally perfect .021Milk ureas have rocketed last 2 weeks
0.036 this morning up from 0.023 on the first.
Clover is rampant!
Should be treated as a annual to get the most from it, we killed chicory with in 12 months from just grazingA neighbour has tried chicory here but it didn’t persist, maybe too far north?
Not much use to me that, even if the seed was for nothing I’m not likely to be scratching the whole platform annually.Should be treated as a annual to get the most from it, we killed chicory with in 12 months from just grazing
