Evening stroll with a tin of beer to check heifer's.
And see how big John is settling in!

They will, but figured it's better to have them milking and get them in the right place next time round?
Plus 'most' of them are in calf to ai, he is a nice chap and I don't think he'll get nasty

well all the hay is stacked away, been supplementing the dairy with some hay, to eke out what grass we have, thinking the promised rain would help growth, fudged that right up.

Why October? A wet July and it will fly
moisture is all it needs, to get going again, trouble is, we only get that, when we don't want it.
Old saying round here, is 'febuary fill dyke', basically saying we need a lot of late winter rain, to recharge the aquifers, our stream was a trickle in feb, dry now for nearly 3 months. And we haven't had a wet feb, for ages. Used to lamb the ewes late jan, early feb, because feb was a 'nice' month, dry, to turn ewes and lambs out, now long gone, and not missed.
And that is where we are, dry, made worse here, by being quite exposed, a lot of hills face south, as well, rain comes up through the valley, and splits off, either side of us.

Wet and July don't go together round here.

Went to West Scotland a few weeks ago and a farmer said June is his most successful month for reseeding. I thought he was taking the p*ss 😂
Only month dry enough!
Aug is our 3rd wettest month on average. Winter barley is turning fast, near garantee rain in July when the combines pull out the shed
